Matthew Johnson's Above Ground series is a collection of 35 mm film images taken at elapsed exposures from moving trains. The method evokes the vague recollection of a commute you have taken all too often, or maybe have traveled only once, long ago.

Chesterfield is part of the original NYC Above Ground collection, which were captured while traveling New York City’s above ground subway routes.

All images are high resolution scans of the 35mm film negatives, printed on Hahnemühle Photo Rag 308 paper with archival inks. The editions of 5 are mounted to 8-ply matting.
